On Crete Are You Experiencing Intermittent Web Browser Problems these few days?

Since Thursday there are strange goings on with the Internet with #Cyta.
Some web sites are accessible with my web browsers and others not. There is no clear pattern of access. E-mail works fine, just this issue of web browsing.
All web browsers appear to be affected.

Speculative comments. Over the week end of course it has been a local cause for discussion as many of us use Cyta as our web host, and we are all affected. Was Greece enhancing network security through filtering, archiving user activity? Was there some technical improvement disrupting service? Or was there a severed cable somewhere under the sea between Athens and Heraklion ( a main trunk route of the Internet to Crete??)

Elsewhere in the forum several topics are being discussed that may or may not be the cause.

First there is the implementation of the new digitally controlled radar cameras along the north coast highway (Has Cyta the contract to link them to Rethymnon Police Control Centre???). "Implementation of re-introducing Speed cameras on Crete" Board link here.

Secondly, there is the breakdown in Hersonissos ATM service and #Lidl stopping the acceptance of credit cards in their Hersonissos supermarket store. Board link to that story is here. There is no obvious connection to Cyta, so are Forthnet, Wind or otenet home subscribers affected too.

Curiously over the week end, the CYTA phone answering system kept any caller incessantly on hold without reaching a real person. Is there anything anywhere to mention the reasons behind any of the situations above?

It sounds like a problem with Cyta’s DNS servers. Try using substitutes for a while and see if it resolves the problem. OpenDNS servers are as good as any http://use.opendns.com/

Thank you Footscapes, I will give take up your suggestion as the problem persists today again.

Miraculously at 6pm on Saturday it seemed everything returned to normal but today it is not the case.

I agree with Footscapes. I had to change the DNS on my Mac last week, on either Wednesday or Thursday, as I was experiencing the browser problems described (but with WIND). It was odd because two Macs were working and the third wasn’t. But that gave me the clue as to where to look and – sure enough – I had set up each with different DNS numbers.
