Something seems to have changed either with ExpatShield or with the BBC’s ability to block. I used to use ExpatShield free to download using get_iplayer (i.e., away from the iPlayer website). It worked fine, but navigating to the iPlayer site brought up an ExpatShield paywall. A few weeks ago, downloads via get_iplayer ceased working and now, behind ExpatShield, I can bring up the iPlayer page, although it is geo blocked and won’t play.
It may not be universal, however, as someone else said that ExpatShield (free) was working fine for them to watch iPlayer when it wouldn’t for me.
ExpatShield still doesn’t work for me. Yes, the paid VPN is fine. There are dozens to choose from, & I picked the cheapest I could find. I subscribed for 1 month (about £4) to try it out. It connected reliably and speed was good, so when the one month expired, I subscribed for 12 months (about £23). I’m using https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/
that Expatshield has been discarded by lots of people on the grounds it slows up the browser as well .Try ZenMate for your firefox and chrome browser , its a free vpn ,you find it on Cnet downloads , its fre and it doesnt slow the browser .With it I got the BBC iplayer and also the ITV player .
