        Hi
Newbie to the boards and looking for advice.
My husband and I are planning the move to Crete for January 2012 and I’ve done research into areas but nothing is better than insider knowledge. Any advice on areas to live would be appreciated. Need to have good links to airport as husband works away two months at a time. We’re going to rent for the first 12-24 months before committing to buying.
Hope someone is able to provide some advice.
        Thanks
        :)

            Hi Hellen
Welcom to the site, I am sure you will get a few replies to your question. There are two main airports on Crete one either end. A lot would depend on what you require, I live just west of Chania and love the area, In Tavronitis( twenty mins from the airport) which is a working area/village so it is open all year, there is excellent transport links to Chania and surounding area’s, There is all the facilities you would need around Chania, Banks, Hospital, Shops, Airport ect. You are doing right by renting first, there are plenty of places for long term rental’s I hope this help’s a bit. I am not to familier with the Eastern side (Heraklion area) but feel confident that you will get replies from the surounding area’s there.

That’s a great help to start with. I’ll hope to get other ideas to to help me on my way to coming to a final decision.

                    Hi Hellen
The Apokoronas area has a large supply of rental properties available, it also has the benefit of being situated between the two major airports on the island, which increases your chances of getting a convenient flight.
There are also a large number of expats from all over Europe, which we found useful for finding the ins and outs of getting things done when we first came out here.
Have a look at these sites for a few ideas on what is available.
