      • Gardening in Crete :: From Succulents to other Mediterranean plants
      • From growing succulents to how to create raised garden beds and the challenges of fragrant rose gardening, raising olives and planning for plants and trees that fit the Mediterranean climate.  Horticulaturists and family hobbyists enjoy the climate challenges at sea level,  very hot and dry along the South coast akin to North Africa; then along the Northern Coast lowlands with colder winter winds and the more fickle  weather in the interior mountain ranges - Dikti (Lassithi), the Ida - Psiloritis (Heraklion-Rethymnon) then the White Mountains (Lefka Ori) in Chania. #Crete all over while challenging is essentially easy place to grow your own veggies and flowers, plus Med staples such as citrus, olives and fig trees; with apples and pears on the plateaus. Check out fellow expats at  local gardening clubs.

      • Make Crete Greener
      • Perhaps #Crete has always been eco friendly!  You see, Cretan landscapes today include both alternative energy generation by wind farms and solar panel stations. But did you know that one of the most important contributions to modern society: urban water supply and flushing toilets were actually first used in the  Minoan Civilization. The Minoans inhabited today's Island of Crete and those in the Aegean in the Bronze Age period from c. 3000 BC to around 1100 BC.
