Clogs, ref your original point 2, Praktika D.I.Y – all supplies has a store in Heraklion close by to the airport there.

When you go to their website (google translate required) you could skip the mail order pages for household furniture (although useful) but see for yourself the sections related to materials. Good selection of bathroom items at the moment. They have their own free parking underground. It is free whether you buy or not. I like that as the car can cool down before leaving with a full shop.

They have a useful large section of DIY from construction to internal finishing. They may not have precisely what you seek in metal girders etc but they have a lot of stock. It is a place also to get ideas.

Close by to Praktika store there is also the Industrial Trading Estate that houses many factories in prefabrication. I recall buying double glazed windows several years back.

They also have their own customer card that earns a discount at the end of each year if a minimum spend is made over the preceding year.

In fact Heraklion has many useful locations in Crete’s capital city such as tiles suppliers. End of run (left overs) can be bought for considerable discounts. Lemonakis is a name that comes to mind.

      Hope that helps.
