Hi Del Boy, in the UK often the case.  However on Crete, possible a call out fee would be 30Euro with certain amount of time included- this would need to be confirmed before the person arrives.  Then any parts the chap can advise the cost, before proceeding, it depends what the problem is.
I know there is a shop in Heraklion where we have got parts at reasonable price, that we cannot even  find in UK.  I even got parts in that shop to repair Heater in Ireland.

Should you need to get rid of the items, then look for a place to leave them, that the Gypsies pick up for scrap, if unsure ask in whichever local shop or taverna you use where you live.
