Hi, another alternative which we found very helpful, is to hire a wheelchair from the red cross in the uk and bring it with you. We had the best trip ever when we brought a wheelchair to Crete this year, priority boarding and fabulous assistance at both Manchester and Heraklion airports. I think costs vary from branch to branch, some will ask only for a donation, ours was a bargain £20 for four weeks. Good luck :)
