Nah!  The Mighty Shrimps will get one of them after their humiliation of Manure reserves this week.

To those non football fans, that translates as Southend United beating Manchester United (or Manchester Strikers as I believe they are to be know after the Glazer takeover) 1-0.  My head still hurts!   ;D

It is what used to be called the League Cup. Most trophies are now named after their main sponsor. This means that their title changes every time they get a new sponsor. Worthington sponsored it from 1998 to 2003 when it was called the Worthington Cup. Carling took over as sponsor in 2004.

It is a challenge cup very like the FA cup although there are differences. This simply means that teams are drawn in pairs to play each other. Whichever one looses goes out and the winner goes into the next round.

The Carling Cup started off as the League cup , I think Phaedra. It was once called the Milk Cup and the CocaCola cup too. Hooly should have stuck to either of these beverages when he was celebrating Southend’s success. I wish them well in future rounds as long as it doesnt involve them beating OUR team. Has the draw for the quarter finals been made yet? Who plays who, does anyone know?

                            Thanks Jeana

They are indeed. As Jeana pointed out it has also been sponsored by non-alcoholic beverages. At other times it was sponsored by Littlewoods, a football pools company,
and by Rumbelows, originally a TV and Radio rentals company that turned into an electrical retailer.

Hooly, i take it you are a Southend fan. Do you still have that 6 foot tall pink shrimp as a mascot that you had when i went there to watch the "mighty" Cheltenham. It has to be the funniest and best mascot in the league.

Yes P&B, I have been following them for far too many years.  But no I’m afraid the 6 foot pink thing, most famous for continually coming last in the Mascot Grand National, bit the dust about 2 years ago as the costume basically fell to pieces & was replaced by, what I consider to look like an 8 ft pointed condom.

We also have the crassly named "Elvis J Eel" to complete our embarrassment.  Don’t ask why!   :)

The draw is 12.30 on Saturday.  Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham, Charlton, Newcastle, SOUTHEND & Wycombe.

So a home draw to Wycombe will suit me & straight through to the semi’s.  ;D

Are you completely sure about this Hooly? Hope that you are happy with the draw tomorrow.

Liked the mascot photos. A few seasons ago Bury’s mascot "Robbie the Bobby", named after Sir Robert Peel I think, had his head stolen. Cant remember what the outcome was. May be he got a replacement head or he had to have a completely new outfit.

Meanwhile at Bury, (I knew that a bird came into it somewhere!) Cardiff’s Bluebird got into a bit of a scrap with the afore mentioned Robbie the Bobby and it took seven stewards to separate them. Robbie went on to disgrace himself still further with a bit of mooning. Perhaps this is where Joey Barton got his inspiration from? More details to follow. All this is much more interesting than the football.
