H E Kate Smith CMG will make her first official visit to Chania, 26 October
Via a Tweet, I received a message from Ms Smith yesterday with just a week’s advance notice that she will be in Chania on her first ‘official’ visit since her appointment and wishes to meet you!
I think it is what the American’s call a "town hall’ meeting at the Porto Veneziano Hotel. Topics open for informal discussion include the Consular Service in Greece, Brexit, living in Greece or any other issues you might care to raise.
As with these things, ‘security’ comes into play and the staff wish to know how many will attend….
Place: Porto Veneziano Hotel, on
Time: Thursday 26 Oct from 13:30-15:00
At least this is officialdom reaching out. I hope subjects will be addressed, such as
– citizen’s life long voting rights for expats (the French have them);
– winter fuel allowance to be re-instated,
– remove ‘servicing recovery costs’ for essential documents such as passports as gov should provide them anyway and
– re-instate traditional consular services such as notarising documents (required for UK government departments at least such as life certificates).
