We are planning on staying a few days in paleochora next year in order to see some of the area. My husband doesnot like driving on narrow roads with steep drops and no road barriers. Can anyone tell me what the road from Chania to paleochora is like? Thanks

Most of it is fine but there are a couple of narrower bits. If you take your time there isn’t anything dangerous though.
If you really don’t like it why not take the bus and rent a car for a day or two?

Much of the road is new and widened with crash barriers where required. There’s a couple of narrow stretches through villages that need good headlights at night. If you don’t like being close to the edge, do what the locals do and drive on the opposite side of the road. But look out for fallen rocks!

                But, seriously, it’s fine. :)
