Does anybody know if the Christmas bazaar is happening in Hania this year and when it might be? Are there any others in the planning? Thanks for any info.

There’s a small Christmas bazaar in Almyrida, i think it’s in a hotel by the car park there on the 28th Nov. If you get in touch with Hilary at Crete Island Estates she will be able to give you more details. And yes so far as i know the Chania bazaar is happening. Sorry i can’t be of more help. Oh and i almost forgot, watch out for the table top sales at Sinatraa’s in Georgiopolis, they are having a Christmas table top sale late November early December ;)

Now that I am part of th C.I.C. distribution list care of Facebook ( ) I received the following information:

Subject: CIC CHRISTMAS BAZAAR 2009 – WE ARE COUNTING ON YOU!

Many hands make light work:  each year we are fortunate to have dozens of volunteers come forward to help us with the organization and running of our annual Christmas Bazaar.  In addition to helping out on the two days of the event, we also require assistance during the lead up, especially now, with the Bazaar just a few weeks away.

Helping out in advance need not mean a huge time commitment.  There are many small jobs that need doing, too. You can volunteer to cook or bake something for the Food Service or Baked Goods stalls or help in cleaning the venue before or after the event and help with the set-up/breakdown of the CIC tables.

Please call Brenda Bakx (6974-909989) or any of the Coordinators listed below if you would like to be a part of this exciting and very worthwhile fund-raising event.  If you are new to Crete, or new to the CIC, this is an excellent way to meet other members.

                        WHITE ELEPHANT STALL
                        Coordinator:  Carolyn Rushby – 6956-430245
Needs:  Donations of unwanted books, household items or bric-a-brac for us to sell.  (No clothing or shoes please.)  Any items you wish to donate can be collected from your home on Thursday, November 19.  Please call Carolyn by Wednesday to arrange for pick up.  Alternatively, your donations would be kindly received, anytime between now and the Bazaar opening day at Café Vafe in Nea Hora or at the Cretan Corner Taverna in Aptera/Megala Horafia.  We will be at the Customs House all day on Friday, 4th December, if that is a more convenient way for you to bring any donations.

                        BAKED GOODS TABLE
                        Coordinator:  Gillian Alexander – 6946-732595
Donations of any baked goods – cakes, cookies, etc.  Call Gillian to let her know what you’ll be bringing.  If necessary, pick-up can be arranged.

                        FOOD/DRINKS SERVICE
                        Coordinator:  Gabi Maurer – 28210-39474
Gabi is looking for volunteers to make soups and bring them to the bazaar.

                        VENUE MAINTENANCE (SET-UP & BREAKDOWN)
                        Coordinator:  Brenda Bakx – 6974-909989
Call Brenda if you can help out for a couple of hours on Wednesday or Thursday prior to the event or on the Monday following.

                        Coordinator:  Allan Milton
Allan is looking for someone with electrical experience to assist him in checking the existing wiring and adding additional lights were needed.  If you can help, please contact Brenda Bakx (6974-909989).

                        INSTANT RAFFLE
Coordinators:  Allen and Eileen Wetzstein – 6955-224550
Donate a gift to the Instant Raffle.  The more gifts we have, the more money we can raise for charity.

                        BOTTLE DRAW
                        Coordinator:  Margaret Doyle – 6986-717173
We need lots of bottles!!!  Any bottle of any type of consumable product is acceptable.  For a successful bottle draw we need about 300 bottles.  So far we have less than 100.  We have over 300 members, so if everyone donates 1 bottle we will have more than enough.

                        SANTA’S GROTTO
                        Coordinator:  Brenda Bakx – 6974-909989
We have three Santa volunteers but we need more.  This is a big draw for the Christmas Bazaar and one that many local children look forward to.  We supply to outfit, you supply the ho-ho-hos!

And, of course, we look forward to seeing all of your there.  Let’s make this the best bazaar ever!

Now, as a favour I have posted this above event info here. But would someone from the C.I.C. community take on the responsibility to keep the Brits and Irish in Crete community informed of CIC activities on Brits in Crete ? Appreciated ..
