Suddenly there is a panic by a number of Cretan eating houses for experienced cooks. I have heard this from two sources now in the Elounda area who said the numbers of visitors was straining staff.
Elounda last night was doing well, although I would not say it was jam packed, but nearby Plaka up market fishing village was at lunchtime on Saturday doing really well – seemed bursting at the seams in all the eating places seen from the main road as I drove through the village.
I would think that many of the patrons were locals out for the beautiful coast drive from Agios Nikolaos and Elounda on such a beautiful day. But having said that it is the busiest I have seen the place for a number of years possible helped by the large and luxurious #Blue_Palace_Hotel opposite Spinalonga.
Is it the same in other resorts for this urgent need of cooks and chefs?
Yes – sort of. The problem is that it’s very intermittent. They can go for a week with hardly any customers then a cruise ship full turns up for two days. Some of the cooks whom I know are on permanent standby – just waiting for the phone call.
