I agree in principle but many people can’t afford to upgrade their computer in order to run the latest software. Some of us survive on meagre pensions. :-[
Take my own Apple PowerBook, for example. The last available update was issued around 5 years ago. But it’s still the same computer and still as fast (or slow) as it ever was. So I have no compelling reason to recycle it and spend hundreds on a replacement. Luckily, it’s so old that it’s unlikely to be targeted by modern "malware"!
