We are extending our garden and need a source of good topsoil – where should we buy it from, and what are things to look out for here? How much does it cost – we live about 20min from Kalives, up in the hills.

A lot of the builders merchants sell soil or know someone who will sell you some. I am not sure of the price though. The garden centres will also be able to put you in contact with someone selling soil.

Stone, materials and topsoil are available at a builders merchant on the road from Kalives to Vamos, through Tsivaras and past the Douliana turn, on the left hand side. The soil looks good.

I suggest you have a good look at the soil before you buy it. Some of it seems to be almost grey in colour, whilst we bought some red coloured soil. Not sure if the grey stuff is any good. The red stuff we bought is a bit like clay. The actual soil in our garden is brown and much less of a clay texture.
