Glad you had a great time Fowles. :)
Hi all, I’m still around too! Couple of weeks in the UK stopped me posting, and to be honest, it does all seem a bit flat here at the moment. Happy to comment if something interests me or if I can contribute.
Just for the record. I love Greek Easter but am not keen on the bangers…
Re legalisation, my engineer also told me to hang fire as they were drafting a new law that was a bit more sensible in the way it deals with minor transgressions. Now they’ve published the draft law I can see he was right. The only thing is Greek laws have a habit of morphing from sensible looking drafts to ludicrous loophole-riddled final versions. Fingers crossed.

Yup I’m still about also …I don’t get involved or allow myself to be dragged into politics of any description and I post on another site as well as this one.
We are not long back from the west of the island which was nice for a change, but will be back to our favourite, Agios Nikolaos on the 31st May.
Thanks for mentioning my "cost of living 2013" post latsida ….I would call you Christine but as we have never met I will stick with the more formal
latsida :), the response was disappointing this year but I can only assume we must be fairly accurate with the figures now, hence not a lot of need for folks to contribute corrections to my figures.
Another thought occurred to me, that like a lot of other people who posted here we have a dream of moving to Crete, which in our case should have been this coming winter, but with not just Greece’s but the entire worlds economy being in such a mess we are staying put and looking more at long term lets ..at least until things settle down, and I have no doubt a lot of others are in the same position.p.s. not to far from you guys in Egypt I hear they have just uncovered a new pyramid tomb and have discovered a mummy totally coated in chocolate ….Archaeologists believe it may be Pharaoh Roche.

Ok, that deserved a good giggle. Not heard that one before! Was the pyramid built by To Bla Ron perhaps?
And just for the record, I’m still about, but don’t look in all that often. Personally 2013 has not been a good year for us with the death of my daughter in January, an expensive and cold trip to England in February, and a series of health complications since then.
Since the decline of the foreign population over the last few years, there have been very few questions to answer, very few new people to meet, and, of course, there are very few foreign residents actually needing to or being able to earn a living on the island. We all get a little older and some of us feel the need to drop out of some of the community tasks that we have carried out in recent years.
Personally I found a lot of the bad-tempered bickering that was going on was a good reason not to come near this place! I’ve never been a member of the other site simply because I don’t feel a need to be, although I regard Carol as a friend and we have met up in the past, just as I occasionally meet up with Gerald.
I no longer feel the need to socialise online on a Cretan site any more than I do on Facebook or Twitter or whatever. I have many friends, plenty of activities, am involved in the INCO Photographic Group, Gardening Club and coffee mornings, and my own website and other interests. Things just change over the years, it’s as simple as that!
Just be nice to each other and enjoy the Cretan life.
Regards,
Maurice

Maurice,
I was saddened to read the news about your daughter. I know all too well the pain and anguish you, your wife and your extended family must be going through at this time and wish you my sincere condolences.
There is nothing worse than losing a child, no matter what age you or they are.
Best wishes,
Jon
Hello Jon,
Many thanks for your condolences, they are much appreciated. My daughter had four school age children, two of them half Greek, plus a business, so there are a lot of loose ends still to be sorted. Healing will take time for all of us.

And we don’t need the complexities and misery of all that most "religions" bring and we certainly didn’t need those bloody bangers!
Have to agree with you there!
The last two weeks of our easter holiday was spoilt by the kids letting off bangers right outside our windows or throwing them into the garden.
It was nice to see the village turn out in force with a band to parade their religious memorabilia round the village, photo was snatched outside our front gate on a Galaxy tablet as I’d left all my cameras back in the UK!its a simple case of winter is over, gossip is less important i guess?
