Greece :: Latest on Covid-19 August 31, 2020
From today, August 31st, 2020, under a flare up of Coronavirus cases, the Mitsotakis government has banned all flights between Greece and Barcelona and extends its overall travel restrictions on visitors until September 19, 2020.
Tweaking of the Regulations – Direct Dutch Flight Restrictions Lifted
There is some tweaking of the regulations too. The Greek Civil Protection Ministry has lifted restrictions on flights to and from the Netherlands. Meanwhile, a greater scrutiny is placed on passengers arriving from a host of countries including Albania, Belgium, Bulgaria, Malta, North Macedonia, Romania, Spain and Sweden and the United Arab Emirates. Those arriving passengers must have documentation to prove they are negative and free of Covid-19 to enter the country. No exceptions.
Greece Draconian Rules Imposed on hotspots
Draconian domestic rules to help stem the current virus hotspot outbreaks have been re-imposed in targeted areas. Those affected are in Lesvos in the East and Zakynthos in the west (see impact of outbreak on returning Welsh holiday makers ) Once deemed a Covid hotspot those areas face complete ban on all private and public gatherings for ten people or more, as are all festivities and gatherings cancelled anyway. Face masks must be worn basically everywhere whether in closed areas or in open spaces.
Greece is going through further coronavirus outbreaks mainly due to the tourist arrivals. That is why there is a fluid situation regarding flights being adjusted week by week with other countries such as with Spain and the Netherlands.
