        not just for #Crete

Fire Risk Forecast Map – For Tuesday, August 11, 2020 – Shows High for Many Areas

Civil Protection of Greece Hot Weather Alert

The forecast shows High Fire Risk. This is a risk category 3 on a scale which defines category 5 as being catastrophic.

The regions at Level 3 are Attica, Evia, Skyros, Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Ikaria, Dodecanese and all of #Crete are expected to be most at risk.

In these locations in particular, with the Annunciation Of Mary public Orthodox holiday on August 15th, everyone should be on their guard.  Barbecues are popular as a family feast and celebration of Marry’s Ascent into Heaven.

Fires are a Natural Hazard Mid-Summer in Greece

Typical for this period across #Greece, the threat of fires breaking out is always a possibility especially in Central regions such as in the #Peloponnese and the #Greekislands. With the undergrowth tinder dry in many areas in the south of the country, the Hellenic Fire services are always on the alert. As are the Forestry Department and land management agencies.
