Cautionary health note for those of us staying in Greece this winter

The number of people in Greece who have died due to the flu this  2014/2015 winter season is now in the 20s, according to Greek health officials.

Reports across Greece indicate that this winter influenza virus is spreading rapidly in all areas currently, with 22 deaths so far. Up to 30 patients are in Intensive care units across the country at any given time these few weeks .

The Center for Disease Prevention and Control (KEELPNO) urges the vulnerable groups, particularly the young and the old, resident in Greece to get the flu vaccine. Such vaccine does not cover any mutated virus strain  acknowledges KEELPO, but advises everyone, especially the most vulnerable, to be very careful and follow precautionary measures, including getting the anti-flu shot. The prevention centre further advises anyone with flu symptoms to consult their doctor immediately.  A surge in flu cases is expected in the next 3 months. Last year’s flu season in Greece caused 145 deaths and 330 people were hospitalized.
