Brits in Crete Forum has learned that on Monday (August 31st,2020) that in the tourist resorts of Hersonissos and Malia a rash of confirmed cases these past few days has forced Iraklio Prefecture to become the latest area to face local emergency restrictions to hinder a wider spread of the Coronavirus. #Malia, made famous by the InBetweeners TV movie registered a total of eight cases in one day last week. Previously the town only had one or two isolated cases since the pandemic started on the island of #Crete.
The Ministry in charge of current pandemic health measures, the General Secretariat for Civil Protection, issued the fresh instructions in line with other Covid-19 hotspot outbreaks across Greece:
Suspending street market days
Banning all public events covering all walks of life, especially those involving partying
Stopping religious festivals and related activities
Ensuring that all permitted public and private gatherings must be limited to no more than 9 persons
In cafeterias and restaurants only four patrons can sit at one table, although this is extended to six if those taking food are close family members.
It goes without saying that wearing of face masks continues to be required whilst being anytime anywhere, indoors or outdoors where people congregate. in the Heraklion area.
The specific requirement related to supermarkets for mandatory putting on nose and mouth covering continues.
In Western Crete, Chania prefecture is already under the open ended anti Covid-19 emergency restrictions.
Elsewhere in #Greece, the most famous party island of #Mykonos has had its activities curtailed and under similar emergency orders as is the case in Heraklion.
For Crete: Latest Covid-19 Confirmed Cases Updated for September 4
The University Hospital, Heraklion spokesman told TV Creta’s “Daily Update” News, yesterday evening, Sept 3 that in Heraklion area, some 9 cases were reported overnight, and three in Rethymnon. No further cases were reported for Chania or Lassithi Prefectures.
Greece Overall – Reported Cases
Across the whole of the country there were 241 new cases as reported by EODY, the Greek Government Health agency for September 3rd. Of that number 210 were domestic. The difference are travel related, mainly moving around the country and testing of arriving passengers at Greek airports.
