Brits in Crete Forum has learned that on Monday (August 31st,2020) that in the tourist resorts of Hersonissos and Malia a rash of confirmed cases these past few days has forced Iraklio Prefecture to become the latest area to face local emergency restrictions to hinder a wider spread of the Coronavirus.  #Malia, made famous by the InBetweeners TV  movie registered a total of eight cases in one day last week. Previously the town only had one or two isolated cases since the pandemic started on the island of #Crete.
The Ministry in charge of current pandemic health measures, the General Secretariat for Civil Protection,  issued the fresh instructions in line with other Covid-19 hotspot outbreaks across Greece:

        • Suspending street market days
        • Banning all public events covering all walks of life, especially those involving partying
        • Stopping religious festivals and related activities
        • Ensuring that all permitted public and private gatherings must be limited to no more than 9 persons
        • In cafeterias and restaurants only four patrons can sit at one table, although this is extended to six if those taking food are close family members.
        • It goes without saying that wearing of face masks continues to be required whilst being anytime anywhere, indoors or outdoors where people congregate. in the Heraklion area.
        • The specific requirement related to supermarkets for mandatory putting on nose and mouth covering continues.

In Western Crete, Chania prefecture is already under the open ended anti Covid-19 emergency restrictions.

Elsewhere in #Greece, the most famous party island of #Mykonos has had its activities curtailed and under similar emergency orders as is the case in Heraklion.
