Look I don’t mean to seem like I am having a go or anything..well actually yes I do..to my surprise the other day I logged on and suddenly my status has changed to ‘Old Hand’ now forgive me for the instant shock given the fact that I know (thanks Gerald) that some of my posts have been deemed offensive or ‘off the cuff’ big Deal ! But it is of late that I find this forum to be lacking in any humour whatsoever for instance a post about an ASTRA Z(something) I thought was poking fun at a dreadful Vauxhall car so I said so, nothing back whatsoever, is the slightest bit of wit or banter here been abandoned ? I thought people moved to Crete to escape the misery of the blight which is affecting Blighty only to continue their ultimate quest for misery elsewhere..(This is my opinion). I joined this forum for advice, to have some fun, meet people etc. So please ADMIN if I am not welcome here close my account and block me. There are other forums/websites/information areas. But please will someone just f**king smile !!!!!!!! >:(
And if you do not like my opinion please have the balls to say so
Kindest regards
Ricky & Cath
ps I don’t want to be an Old Hand I could not give 2 f**ks We arwe who we are………..

Maybe you just need to be aware that "the grass is always greener……." There are good and bad things about living in the UK and Crete. For some people, because of individual circumstances, the grass is less green here than in the UK and vice versa! I think that there are BIC members who feel let down by their Greek experience and need the forum to vent off steam etc…. Maybe the more settled, happier individuals don’t bother with BIC as it can be depressing to read. BUT do not assume that it is UTOPIA here! ;)
From the satellite TV forum:-
Thought you were selling some weird Vauxhaul for a moment
"Astra" is the name of several satellites owned by the company called SES-Astra. Most people reading posts in the satellite TV forum will know that, so the interjection wasn’t sufficiently amusing to warrant a comment.
I did spend several seconds trying to see the joke in the misspelling of "Vauxhall" – (something to do with "hauling", I wondered?) – then decided that "Vauxhaul" was simply a typo, which wasn’t amusing at all, so I decided not to comment and further interrupt the discussion.
However, since you brought up the subject, I’ve explained my reasoning.
Hiya Rick, how was the holiday, last I recall you were off to Crete in September, having been looking forward to an update on some of how it went?
Blimey what side of bed did you get out this morning, if you don’t like being B.I.C. Old hand, either delete some of your messages to get back to being A True BIC’er or do more posting to Been Around almost as long as Crete itself (Don’t think we get any Green Shield stamps or the like)

Do enjoy usually reading your posts.

or have a different sense of humour………………
Ricky,
Some weeks back you gave people your Facebook page address. I’m sure I wasn’t alone in checking your ‘likes’ and discovering that you support (or at least like) several organisations which most would consider both racist and offensive.
Nor am I sure why you feel posts need to be punctuated here and there with the word f***ing. Is this for some kind of shock value or does it pass for emphasis or humour in your part of the world? And before you ask, I too was born in Yorkshire.
I’m sure you consider yourself urbane, witty, perhaps even an all round good guy and bon vivant but have you once considered that some of us may not share your humour or your English Defence League views?

I think you doth protest too much Mr ricky.
as you make more posts you progress though various stages, you are apparently "old hand " :D
Well said Topdriller, I am so sick of racism and the vile extremist views posted on facebook …
Just for the record I am not racist nor am I a member of the EDL though I do empathise with some of their ideals if not with their ways of communicating them. I’m sorry if I offend but I don’t agree that under Islamic law I should be beheaded for not following the teachings of the Quaran. If you have seen the news of late planning permission has been granted for a mosque in London which will be 5 times the size of St Pauls Cathedral and where UK law will be usurped by Sharia Law sorry to burst your bubble but the rise of Islam is affecting/threatening western ideals and culture.Free speech/womens rights/gay rights/education/human rights. But hey does it matter in Crete with Greece having one of the lowest % of Muslims in Europe ! I for one do not want to see my mother/sister/girlfriend/girl friends having to wear a burkha in public. What do I know ? If that is being racist then you are wrong Muslims are not a race !
No one likes fanatics or fundamentalists whether, Muslim, Catholic, Protestant etc. 3000+ people, most of them innocents, were murdered because of their religion – Northern Ireland 1969 thru 1993. I wonder how many people British based Muslims killed over that same time frame?
Perhaps we should be more concerned about what might happen should a fundamentalist Mormon become President of the USA, as is now looking like a distinct possibility.
Jon
ps. As an atheist, I have no objection to God, what I object to is some of the less savoury members of his fan club!
Extremism comes in may shapes…
Jon
Once again I have to burst your bubble, they have a self proclaimed Muslim president in the US so what is it the lesser of two evils!Ricky,
Obama has consistently said he is not a practicing Muslim. It’s the religious and political right who continue to play this card, just like they’ve continued to accuse him of not being US born.
http://p.washingtontimes.com/news/2012/sep/7/obama-i-have-never-been-a-muslim/?page=all
Personal belief, having an inner faith, is not a bad thing whether Christian, Muslim etc. It’s the fanatics and fundamentalists on both sides of the religious divide which cause the problems because they can’t accept and worst still won’t allow others to have a different view or belief.

Jon
You and others may insinuate that I have racist and extremist views…perhaps you might take time out to have a look at the following page unless of course you are too busy with the Washington Times…when I 1st joined this forum I did so because myself and Cath wanted to join a community to learn what it would be like to actually live in Crete..we have made some friends (We hope) but I also feel like something of a 2nd class citizen here, an ignorant Angle(the word England comes from this the bastardisation of Anglo Saxon) looking for Utopia far from it. One of my mothers favourite phrases is ‘think before you open your gob’ I unfortunately (or fortunately do not subscribe to that ideal) I say what I think and speak from my heart. It is obvious that I cannot burst anyones bubble. But that does not mean I succeed, far from it. Everyone be it He or She are entitled to their own opinion. Far from it for me to exploit nor leave you to criticism in your own Utopia. How would I dare to question your views. I will leave you with one thought though……..no I won’t work it out for yourself…………………..
(OH just because you are an atheist will not save your head!)

Ricky,
The growing support for the Greek fascist party – Golden Dawn – is a concern for everyone living here in Greece. Just like a war wearied broken Germany in the twenties and thirties many Greeks are listening to the propaganda put out by these fascist bully boys.
In Germany the Nazi party turned its attention to the Jews, blamed and demonised them for everything and then killed them. Golden Dawn – now reputed to be the third party here in Greece with 17% of the vote (according to the latest opinion polls) – wants all immigrants out.
The question you have to ask yourself – should you decide to move here – is whether or not Golden Dawn will view you as an immigrant should they gain even more influence?
You don’t have to be Muslim or non white to either bully or kill someone.

"the word England comes from this the bastardisation of Anglo Saxon"from Wikipedia
"The name "England" is derived from the Old English name Englaland, which means "land of the Angles".[15] The Angles were one of the Germanic tribes that settled in Great Britain during the Early Middle Ages. The Angles came from the Angeln peninsula in the Bay of Kiel area of the Baltic Sea.[16] According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the first known use of "England" to refer to the southern part of the island of Great Britain occurs in 897, and its modern spelling was first used in 1538.[17]"

Top driller , don’t think you should be using this forum for your war of words with Ricky … I don’t think many people on here want to read all that .. PM each other or have a straightener .. but dont post your row or each others ideals on here
Spoilsport. I’m quite enjoying the exchange. Will it be rapiers or pistols, gentlemen? 8-)
If a member uses this public forum to post a link to an illiterate, ignorant, obscene and almost certainly illegal message of his on another site, another member has every right to take issue with that.
I am grateful to Topdriller for saying what I would hope many of us think: that Mr Rick’s rantings, not to mention his ugly in-your-face illustrations, are not welcome here.
I would happily go further and tell Mr Rick that Crete can well do without people like him.
