For allegedly racially abusing Anton Ferdinand during a match against QPR. I don’t know if he is guilty and that is not the point of the post. The point is, there is going to be a 5 day trial and at the end, IF he is found guilty, the maximum is a £2,500 fine. Now, it’s ok as both parties have plenty of money and the lawyers will get richer etc..but if it was a legal aid case which would cost ££££££’s and at the end all they get is this paltry fine, where is the deterrent.

Terry allegedly called Ferdinand an ‘effing black bastard’ and what I’d like to know is why that’s perceived as racial abuse?  Ferdinand is quite obviously black but what we don’t know is whether or not his parents were married when he was born.  As an English born person living in Scotland I was regularly called an ‘effing English bastard’.

What I’d like to know is why I’m not perceived as being racially abused?  What’s more, and if the use of the word ‘black’ is the trigger, then would it be racial abuse if Terry had called him an ‘effing Afro Caribbean bastard’?  And what if Ferdinand had called Terry an ‘effing white bastard’, would that also be perceived as a racist comment?

It seems to me that racism has become a little one sided and, just like the sexual harassment laws in the work place, can be used by the unscrupulous for a different agenda.

None of us like or should condone racist language but let’s at least have a level playing field (sic) so that the next time someone calls someone else a ‘scouse bastard’ and in doing so is referring to their Irish background and a perceived propensity to steal and scrounge off the State we realise that this too is a racist comment.

Jon, the alleged phrase was somewhat stronger than that, but the defining point (as far as I am concerned), is that no complaint has been made by Ferdinand.
The complaint has come from a member of the public on what he thinks was said.
It’s the old problem again, they have to do something on the off chance that somebody was offended.
Personally, if I was paid an obscene amount of money for kicking a bag of air around the park, you could call me anything you like  ;D

So, did the member of the public hear the abuse or lip read?  Typically it was a meddling woman (now his ex girlfriend) who pointed Ferdinand to You Tube so he could watch the clip.  Ferdinand admitted in court to baiting Terry about sleeping with Wayne Bridges’ erstwhile girlfriend.

I’ve got to be honest here, I’d have probably called him a black c… too if he’d made that kind of comment to wind me up.  And isn’t that the point ie Terry would have probably said nothing had Ferdinand not specifically tried to put him off his game by baiting him?  It doesn’t justify Terry’s comment but doesn’t Ferdinand have to accept some responsibility?

Would it have been better had Terry called him a non white c… or would that be considered racism by default?

A waste of tax payers money. I wonder what Charlie Williams and Bernard Manning might have said.

A little off topic but still related.  I have no idea if this is fact or fiction but it was posted on Facebook earlier today. Is it any wonder most indigenous Brits feel the PC brigade have taken over the mad house?

                            • Consider the most opportune time of day to be able to arrest suspects with minimum resistance
                            • Apply all necessary force to enter the premises and arrest suspects accordingly.

                            If they’re Muslim:

                            • Community leaders must be consulted before raids into Muslim houses.

                            • Cameras and camcorders should not be used in case of capturing women in inappropriate dress.
                            • If people are praying at home officers should stand aside and not disrupt the prayer.

They should be allowed the opportunity to finish.
                            • Officers should take their shoes off before raiding a Muslim house.
                            • The reasons for pre-dawn raids on Muslim houses needs to be clear and transparent.
                            • Officers must not touch holy books or religious artefacts without permission.
                            • Muslim prisoners should be allowed to take additional clothing to the station.

When in Rome etc. Sorry but if someone wants to live in another country then they should respect, obey and follow the rules and customs. If any immigrants in any country can’t do that then go back to their country where their customs are accepted. End of………….. blend in or leave……….. easy.

                                        Hi MCD,
Jon’s post was a hoax that has been circulating for years,

your observations are of course quite right but there are quite a few people I know living here who would have to leave if those were the conditions. :D :D

anyway what has this to do with John Terry?

I wonder what the Greeks would have done if five British Christians, brought up in Athens, had blown themselves up on the Athens metro?  Or a little closer to home, what if 5 Greek born first generation Albanians had detonated themselves on the Metro?

The thing is, it’s hard to believe western Europeans would be so fanatical or that their religion would be so important that they would kill themselves and others in the name of their God.

And isn’t this the problem ie the Muslim religion states quite categorically that the Muslim way is the only way and it’s your duty to further the cause. It should of course be noted it does not countenance violence.

This being the case, how can Muslim beliefs blend into our Christian / secular society?   This must be even truer today when for the past 20 years we’ve been fighting geo political wars in two Muslim countries.

Watch what happens in Egypt over the next five years as the Muslim Brotherhood tightens it’s grip on the country. Christian churches will be torched and later oulawed, Christian Egyptians will be tortured, killed and driven underground or out of their homeland. Remember, they want to return all of Egypt to 7th century Sharia law.

I’m not sure we can ever fully blend in with peoples with such a diverse and backward looking religious mind set.

                                                            Christine,

Three visitors left yesterday at 4pm after two weeks at Casa Symons, four more arrived an hour earlier – which is handy re saving two trips to the airport in one day!  They leave in two weeks and my sisters arrive for two weeks – same day, so no, not on a downer.  Busy little bee is my middle name, as well as tour guide, bon vivant, etc.

The subject is a big one and if we can’t move away from one incident and discuss the racism question and cultures trying to blend together – when both have totally different views on religion, family values etc – then what use an open forum?

                                                            Jon

Hi Jon, glad you are rising to the occasion but who changes the sheets?, thats the hard work in these temperatures at the moment.

Re Racism this is of course an emotive subject but when watching any live football game on TV there is usually an Ad Banner running saying "say no to Racism ", if the players can not do this then why the charade of expecting others to do so.
would you expect the same sort of abuse between Murray and Federer?
surely a little more respect is required, and I know team games are different and more is a stake when you are in a league but it is all a little tawdry don’t you think?
