Hi everyone – am new to the site and am currently looking for a home in Crete. I live in England in Newcastle. Does anyone know of any Greek courses I could attend.

            Attend where, in Newcastle??

If you Google "Greek Class Newcastle" it comes up with a few options.

                Hi Suz

No evening courses anywhere in the area. There used to be but having registered to take a couple I was eventually told they were cancelled due to no demand.

A neighbour of mine has done very well using this site. He astounded some friends by being able to speak to local tradesmen with confidence about work he wanted doing!

                Good luck!

Hi Suz,good luck with your quest and persevere. We all stuggle, but the rewards are vast. I too learnt a bit with the site posted by Kathleen.

I would also suggest getting cds as it really does help to mimic the sounds. The nearest I can think of is Lancashire where there is a remarkably good teacher who also does week end course at Chorley.

Also found these books to be of use.

Greek language and people( BBC) ISBN 0 563 16575 8. Possibly out of print now, mine is so old it came with tapes not cds!

A textbook of modern greek by Dr Kypros Tofallis
                    ISBN 0 905313 25 9.

Also used to be (many years ago ) a really good greek bookshop don’t know if it’s still there.

Hi, you could try contacting my Greek teacher who does on-line teaching. Her name is Chrissi Nerantzi and until recently was based in Newcastle. If you want to ask her about lessons available near to you I’m sure she would be able to help. Her website is http://www.chrissinerantzi.co.uk
                        Good luck.
