And yes…. after so long i post again in this forum. been busy the last year or so due to work, and thats why i was away.
I am on my way to make a move back into UK. I am aiming mid of January and looking for Southwest. Mainly Cornwall and Devon.
bank accounts, NHS sorted since i was a student.
main problem at the moment is getting a job. been looking sites and i got a few on my mind in the tourism industry, retail (super markets), butchery and worst case even cleaning.
any ideas? any one living there that know of a possible job for me? i need to make a living so i am looking the national minimum wage in order to be able to get a room etc.
To start with i will be provided accommodation for a small period, but still i cant be there all the time. so the earlier i settle in the better.

p.s. in case anyone asks why i move…. firstly i have my son there, which on its own its a major reason and secondly i cant make a living anymore here. i work to pay off credit card, taxes, bills etc and there is never enough. due to direct-indirect taxation i have lost about 30% of my income the last two years. it will get worst and the longer i wait the harder it will be to move.

I hope it works out for you. The south west is probably the worst place to find work. I suspect you’d do better in a city such as Bristol.

Somerset and Wiltshire (still called the South-West of England) and especially Bristol still have quite a few basic unskilled jobs advertised especially in retail, restaurants etc.I know we have a lot of unemployment here ( I live in Bath) but I think the south west hasn’t been hit as hard as some areas and you are bound to find something in the minimum wage category.Supermarkets are always asking, check out their web-sites and look at current vacancies. As well as economic problems we are now all flooded around here and the rain is relentless!Good luck anyway! :)

i am skilled in 3 sectors (tourism, butchery, retail manager) but i am also open in other areas so that income will start to flow and then i will aim for a better job.
Bristol and plymouth are on my location list and i have heard that after New Years more job open up, as people quite often…. Am i correct?

Why not try looking at online sites like gumtree if you can and then you can specify when and where you want to try?
You can submit your CV online and see if you get much response.I notice some jobs are being advertised now for January starts.

best of luck sokin, always enjoy your posts on here.

My brother is in Cornwall and he tells me it is bad for work down there, and I am in Scotland and have just been made redundant so I can confirm it aint any better up here.
p.s. the redundancy combined with a few other hiccups(interest rates) has made me take a long hard look at my move to Crete and has basically set me back a couple of years.
tough times we are living in.

once again "best of luck sokin.

i cant post on;ine cv just yet, as i hand in notice 3/01/13 and depending on how things are here it can take them a week or two to find a replacement. also i will need time to sell my car-bike and settle my depts here prior moving. so i cant promise to eny employer that i will be up there in a specific date….

my postings here will continue if u get to have a place of my own again with internet and less than 9-12 hours work per day ;)

Sokin It is OK to post a CV on line while you are still working. Many people in the UK do that as they look for a better job. It allows possible employers to see it, and they know that you are probably still in a job.
On the down side, not many people get jobs through CVs posted on line.
You can actually search the "Job Centre" on line by region, and this may a help.

all more or less the same .
                                            great Easter ;).
the weather has not settled yet, today for instance the winds are strong here in Latsida and from the south so the the sky is overcast and you can almost taste the dust in the air.
today there are 53 direct flights in to Heraklio from the rest of Europe though landing in these winds will be tricky.
tomorrow should be better with a change of wind direction and clear skies 8-)

is the forum quiet coz people no longer move to Crete (thus no need to ask things in forums) or something else has happen?
small truth from here in the UK. when I went to Truro for my Insurance Number I was told that I was the second Greek in a week to apply and our numbers have increased the last two years!!??
I take it lots of Greeks are moving away now days and even in Lands End (as in Cornwall) Greeks are settling in….
I think they could even make a new forum named Greeks in the UK the way things are going…

I am aware of Greeks seeking work outside of Greece, in London have not noticed any more Greeks turn up amongst the many nationalities that arriving daily. They seem sensible if they are heading to scenic quieter places like Cornwall.
