I happened to be over in the Aporkornas yesterday i.e. up to Plaka but then left towards the cliffs and the sea.  The views over Souda Bay are truly stunning and when you get away from "Little Britain" it really is a beautiful place.  However, when you look back from the cliff and over to the "mountain" (big hill) you can see just how much building work has gone on over the last ten or so years.

We first looked at this area in 2001 but were put off when we passed a house with gnomes in the garden.  It’s funny how the little things make all the difference.

But yes, the views are indeed stunning and there are still unspoiled spots over there which take your breath away.  Sadly though, the speak on the street suggests that there are a lot of houses for sale in this area as many Brits are deciding Crete is just too expensive to live these days.

ps What’s more, you can see the planes / fighters flying into the base but can’t hear them which can’t be said by those of us who live on the Akrotiri!
