Hello one and all! First time post!!
My wife and myself are looking to move to Crete sooner rather than later and are at the stage when it’s exciting…then terrifying…then exciting…then terrifying…then… :D

        GEORGIOUPOLI!
My wife are coming there On May 9th for two weeks to look at property in the Apokoranas region.

5 YEARS AGO aprox we met some people in a bar off the main square in Georgioupoli. It was just off he main square and had wicker chairs set outside. A group of British expats gathered there early lunchtime. One of the group had his 80TH BIRTHDAY while we were there and my wife and I bought him a card and some Greek delight.
Are you guys still gathering there? Can we meet up and pick your brains?
Is there anybody else living nearby who wouldn’t mind meeting for a chat?
        We are staying at Zorbas?!
        Thanks for reading this,

        Owen (& Ros) x

I don’t think so Stuart! On most occasions I was the only person who turned up – Not even the CIC Board bothered to attend. Where do you think the Georgioupoli CIC Coffee mornings were held? And as to the CIC website, this hasn’t been updated since June 2013! The only current information is in the forum section.

Come on Stuart, you’re a Board member, sort the CIC out before you try to promote it.

                            Hi Owen & Ros

The advice we usually give new people who are wishing to move to Crete, is to rent initially for 6 months to a year. There are many properties you can rent for a year at a very reasonable rate. It will give you the chance to make up your mind exactly what part of Crete you would prefer to live, as well as decisions about the size of the property, whether you want to be in a Village or outside. I think it is important to live on the Island for a year to see the changes in people in the Summer season and Winter season as well as conditions in the weather for road access.

There are many side costs & Taxes when buying and selling a property so important to make the right choice, main reason to consider renting for a year or longer.

                            Good luck and enjoy

I am sure you have read the minutes and know full well the current situation re the web-site and newsletter. Also that we asked for most of last year for a Board member to join us from Chania and Kalives withoiut success.

It was you who referred Owen & Ros to the Official CIC web page, which as I said hasn’t been updated since June 2013. As a non-member, the only minutes available to me and Owen, on that website, is the Presidents Report from 2012, so why don’t you enlighten us on ‘the current situation’

Unlike you I have offered Owen & Ros some practical help.

Have you found out yet where the Georgioupoli CIC Coffee morning used to be held?

You might be describing "The Naos". We used to go there every Sunday for English Breakfast (as a change from the traditional Greek food that we eat most other days). However, we haven’t been here as long as 5 years so it wasn’t us.

"The Naos" has been renamed "Valhalla" and is reopening tonight under new management – so I don’t know what it will be like. We used to go there to practice our Greek and that might not be possible with the new non-Greek staff.

Or you might be describing what is now "Sinatras", next door to the above. I don’t know what it was like 5 years ago but I think it has canvas chairs – or did until recently.

Places change and parts of Georgioupoli are unrecognisable!
