Can anyone advise me whether there is a pet rescue charity near Rethymnon? We have a holiday home and our ( Greek) next door neighbours have a beautiful dog who is chained up and whom they leave for days on end. Our neighbour who is English and a resident and we (when we are the) feed it but the family has now been gone for 5 days. He is such a beautiful dog I wondered if here is a re -homing set up in the area?
There has been a considerable strengthening in anti – cruelty legislation in recent months – how enforceable it would be I don’t know – but the people in the above organisation are helpful and a good start point.
The ‘locals’ and yourself should go to the police and report this. Take pictures of the dog with you. A dog should have food and clean water every day, this is the owners responsibility by law. You must go to the police and make a report, they must act.
Unfortunately the charities in CHANIA and Rethymnon couldn’t help as they have so many puppies to rehome. Does anyone know someone who might be able to take him in.? Marco is a beautiful dog – he is about 21 months old. He is very friendly -just roles over to be tickled when you go to see him. I paid for him to be vaccinated last year. I am now back in UK until next year and currently my neighbour is feeding him but they are unable to take him on. His picture is on Facebook -put in "for sale or wanted in CHANIA" or "for sale or wanted in Rethymnon". I do hope someone can help -we can’t let him be put down!
Just to update you-Lorraine from Cretan Animal Protection contacted me and has arranged for the dog to go to boarding kennels for a few weeks and she will then re-locate him to the UK in November. Fantastic!! :)
