Yes, this pop up thing is very niggling. And I am into resolving it.

I want to see happy site visitors.  So rest assured we are not doing anything we should not. Pop ups are unfriendly at the best of times to most of us. For some to think that I would do something annoying deliberate to make a few breadcrumbs is quite beyond me.

Onto Kathleen’s comments on links not working. Perhaps this will explain it.  I deliberately changed the set up to require that links in postings be manually processed not be automatically generated.

Why? The reason is I want members to use the facilities of the forum to the fullest. There are two rows of useful buttons above the window where you create a posting. The top row, first button – the globe- is the "insert hyperlink" button.

I did not mention the change, for fear of insulting members as they know how the buttons function. On top of that the "Help" button is very descriptive in explaining all the things that can be done to make posts more interesting. Of course you read the Help section and know all this anyway, right?

I do not believe members who comment about the pop ups making money have thought it through.  We are not a site with hundreds of thousands of visitors a day. You need that amount to generate any decent income.

Speaking of income, the site is down to a pittance. Call it pocket money. For the past 12 months or so I have been keeping this site going out of my own pocket. XXXXX DELETED SO AS NOT TO BREACH GOOGLE AD RULESXXXXX It is a simple fact of economic life: XXXX SAME REASON XXXX The income is entirely commission-based for the continued running of the maintenance of this site. Too many clients who have paid for ads to be inserted no longer do so. Several did not appreciate all the free ads in postings that has gone on. Something I have been warning about.

As some of you may have noticed I am developing the main web site. How the forum evolves from here in relation to the main site depends on how it is perceived.  I have always fully recognised the contribution of members that is why I have continued the path we are on in these difficult times. Where the path leads to and how many potholes along the way we face will unravel in 2012. But we will be here.

            Thank you for your time.

            Gerald

As of 0900hrs GMT 12noon Crete/greece time we have blocked what we think is the offending source of the pop ups.

                        Anyone still experiencing the prob?

                        2. Binx – I understand where you are coming from but XXXXXX Deleted original statement for reasons aboveXXXX It is supposed to be a spontaneous thing.

I haven’t experienced the problem, but I use NoScript which forbids all but essential Javascript. I did notice that one of the scripts switched off in BIC came from "Feedcat".

Feedcat seems to be a recent source of some redirects on other sites, reported here and here

                                            Potential culprit?

Did you manage to run down the problem when you click on preview before posting your message and then lose your post? I just lost another post after clicking on preview and got the same error message I’ve seen for the past few weeks.
