How are they going to do this? Are they going to use the info from the legalisation process?
I hope I’m wrong but I guess this is another expat tax as they are the main ones who have "legalised" their properties!

            Hi Gem,
the property tax is a yearly tax on properties worth over 400,000 euros in 2010 and  200,000 in 2011 plus they probably use the objective value rather than the actual market value.
this Tax is not to be confused with the property duty payable with your electricity bill, the road tax obviously applies to everyone with  a vehicle.
I have no problem with either and I only know a couple of expats in this area with homes worth in excess of these amounts.

ps. I do not include the area of Elounda which I am sure has homes worth millions 8-)

This is the original property tax which was set up 2008/2009 but then suspended on subsequent years.

Along with my tax return for this year my accountant has also had to register and confirm the size of my home and pool on a property return. At present it is based on the original size of the building but has to be amended when the paperwork for an added apotiki is finalised. The size will the be slightly increased. Either way, it should be under a value of €200000, substantially less if that figure is based on the objective value.

It makes no difference whether or not any legalisation has taken place, your accountant should have gone through the registration process on the basis of the dimensions he or she already had on your tax file.

Also to be applied to properties with a lower value of €200000 for the 2011 tax year if you re read the article, Christine.

I read the first link from GEM

Curious, why they want to do away with the Compulsary Sticker for Road Tax

all done electronically so in theory easier to crosscheck it seems.

Yet another change!!! They are seriously losing the plot. How many people could pay 200 to 300 Euros a month for living in their own 100m house!!!!!!
