Please help! We are new to the forum, but have had a holiday home in W Crete for 5years. We are three technophobe women who jointly own the house. We are trying to work out the best way of installing TV in the house to get UK channels ( we know we can’t get BBC unless BIG dish!). Everyone tells us something different, and we are totally confused! Advice?
If you’re near Chania call Michael on 6944508907. He’s Greek but speaks good English. He can set up anything you want re TV, dishes, Sky package etc.
The easiest / cheapest way to do this is bring your Sky card with you, buy another box for here (either buy it here or in the UK) and then plug the card in when you come out on holiday. As long as one of you brings their Sky card with them the system – once correctly installed – will work just fine.
To put up a dish, rig the cabling and buy a Sky digi box would probably cost between €300 to €400 depending on the type, difficulty of the job etc.
If you don’t live near Chania then look on this site for other people who set up dishes etc.
If you have Sky in UK, I suggest you buy a SkyDigibox on Ebay in UK, you should pick up a Pace DS430N, which will do the job, for about £30 max. Bring it out with you and providing your dish is big enough and is set up correctly to receive Sky you can use your UK card. Graeme Cook sorted me out through one of his contacts, Tony, who deals with the Rethymnon area.
I insert my card on arrival and it does the job quite happily. I don’t get the Movie/Sport channels but with ITV and Channel 4 set to ‘other channels’ on the system I am more than happy with what I can pick up. I also have Nilesat and Terrestial too, so plenty to choose from as far as movies etc. are concerned.
