You may recall the long running saga of why anyone should pay for a TV licence if they don’t have a TV set but instead watch via the Internet connection.

As of now, the financially strapped BBC has acquired, with special permission to use the normal surveillance equipment used in fighting crime to sniff out WiFi users.

BBC will go around catching out those watching BBC programmes on iPlayer devices. According to the Daily Telegraph this will start next month.

The corporation has been given ‘special permission’ to use this crime busting technique to claw back TV licence fees.

Blame the National Audit Office. Details at:

It’s a long way to Crete! I suspect that defeating it will be easy. If the technology works (which I doubt) they’ll be looking for the "hanging fruit". That includes ignorant people who leave their Router SSID exposed.
