As the car park is currently flooded, is this event really still happening? Several of the sellers have told me they won’t be going so what’s happening. Who is planning this?

Martin , you knew I was organising the boot fair , I’m sure that you saw the updates as did everyone else on the social media sites . I don’t usually advertise on this site so didn’t update this one . A small version of the boot fair went ahead with the kind permission of the Costa anitav taverna who kindly allowed us to,use their premises . There will not be another giant boot fair , until maybe next summer season . However after all the moaning and groaning about this last one I don’t know if another one will be arranged

We welcome adverts for events here but please do keep them updated. You can’t expect people to see an advert here and look for updates elsewhere unless you specifically state that’s what you are going to do (which is fine and makes sense).

I would suggest posting a link to your Facebook page here with every event and make it clear that all updates will be posted there – or vice-versa. Make it easy for yourself (and your customers).
                    :)

(BTW, it was clear to me that somebody called "chocaholic" was organising the event and not somebody called "thebigbluecheese".)

Actually I didn’t. In fact I asked around and I was told specifically that someone called "Neesha" (?) had arranged the licence and I assumed that she was "chocaholic".

I don’t check Facebook every day and I was unaware of the advert on (was it "Thing’s for Sale"?) until after the event, when I came across it by chance while looking for something else.

I did see a lot of photos of the flooded car park on my Facebook "feed" and I was told by two sellers that they would not be going because it was certain to be cancelled (and they hadn’t heard otherwise by Sunday morning – I checked).

Nevertheless, I did go to Almyrida for Sunday breakfast and found the tables so, from my point of view, it was no big deal.

Paul, you and I are friends so please take this in the spirit of friendship and helpfulness that is intended:

When I was a manager at a multinational company, I’d have been up for reprimand if I’d told anyone "you should have known". It’s a manager’s job to communicate effectively and to ensure that everyone is informed.

The idea of directing everyone to Facebook for updates is OK EXCEPT that I know for a fact that a lot of people don’t have a Facebook account and those that do don’t check it every day. Even if they do, Facebook is sh;te and there’s no guarantee that they’ll see a specific message.

So my suggestion, for what it’s worth, would be to contact those people who have a large mailing list and ask if they’d be willing to do a mailshot to keep their recipients informed of charitable events and updates. If they agree, then you could simply send your information to those few people and leave them to get it out to everyone.

                        I would suggest:
                        Helen Peters (ApokoronasOurHome).
                        Pete Sheppard (Gefyra the Bridge)
                        John Eardley (Social Supermarket)
                        Maggie Gibson ("Avrio" newsletter)

And specifically email the sellers. I assume you have your own mailing list for them. That way nobody has any excuse for not knowing what’s happening.

I’m happy to help in any way that I can.  :)

Paul, we all appreciate how difficult it is to organise events and nobody is seriously trying to put you down. Your efforts are really appreciated so please don’t be upset.

Martin , unless someone else organises next years there probably won’t be any more giant boot fairs . Thanks for the suggestions but to be honest I’m a bit sick and tired of the whole thing . I’m not getting on at you but there are people with a lot of chop but don’t offer to help ..
