200 Pax on Zakynthos-Cardiff Flight Face Two Weeks Quarantine

As of today (August 31, 2020), Public Health Wales (PHW) reports that there are now 16 confirmed Covid-19 cases out of the 200 passengers from Tui Flight TON6215 that flew holidaymakers home to Cardiff from Zakynthos (Zanthe)  on August 25th. Known as the party island, Zante has become a Covid hotspot. Greek authorities on Friday placed restrictions on the island’s residents to limit the spread of the disease.

PHW is now instructing all passengers from the TUI flight to self isolate at home for 14 days and is in the process of tracking the location of all the passengers.

The British Health authorities have cleared Greece in recent weeks of Covid restrictions for arrivals into UK.

Latest News Update on Greece Covid-19 Hotspots

Any Brits travelling to Greece should be aware that Chania in the prefecture of the same name in Western Crete, this past week has seen a spike in coronavirus cases and the local government has placed restrictions on people’s activities there. It is now mandatory to wear face masks in both indoors and outdoors.

Also another well known Crete party resort made famous in the “Inbetweeners” TV series, Malia in Heraklion prefecture this past week had its first reported case of the Covid-19 virus.

It is an unfortunate developement for Crete that between March and July this year there were only 20 coronavirus cases in total . Yet, on one day last week there were the same number in a single day.

The Cretan economy needs badly the revenue from tourism but the price is a rise in Covid cases too. All four of Crete’s administrative areas have active cases of Covid-19 at the moment.

Two other Greek Covid hotspots announced last Friday are the Cyclades Islands of Paros and Anti-Paros where restrictions have been placed on community activities there too.

Remember, to visit Greece all passengers have to be in possession of an all-clear Covid test as reported via the mandatory Passenger Locator Form (PLF) that has to be completed online within 72 hours of arrival into Greece.

Imagine, few holidaymakers on the TUI flight would have thought they would return to UK with a present they had not bargained for.
