Hi everyone. We are buying a house about half an hour west of Chania. We want to find some nice tiles for the bathroom. The only tile shop we’ve found is on the road a few shops down from Ikea. Any suggestions or recommendations?

Ideally we’d like something a bit more ‘rustic’ rather than very shiny and modern. Our first preference would be some reclaimed encaustic floor tiles like to find in old buildings but we haven’t seen any salvage or reclamation yards that might sell something like this. In any case we love salvage yards to if anyone knows of one in Crete we’d love to hear about it.

Second best would be a new but natural tile – something like a travertine mosaic.

            Hi Emma27,
I also like the same kinda stuff…….
been told by a Greek friend, look around athens (on-line) then if u get lucky ship it back…..aparently it’s not so expensive and it’s the norm for business……
I’ll be ordering about 4-5 ton of steel that’ll come the same way….
or u can fill a van with stuff (long week end in Athens) or get a large pallet for multiple smaller items…
most shipping companies will accept delivery’s to add to ur pallet at no extra charge and when full they’ll deliver the lot in 1 go…..
I do it all the time……
            good luck …….Clogs

I noticed last week that there is a shop selling tiles opposite `Moderno’ coffee shop near to Jumbo.
There is also an electrical/ bathroom shop in Kalives, opposite the pool shop `Piscines Ideales’ on the Amenoi road that has tiles.

One of the largest tile shops is "Terzis" next to the National Road between the hospital turn (Mournies) and the Omalos turn (for Jumbo).

"Terzis" is in front of "Oikos" furniture shop on a small trading estate.

For a country that has so much living outside it has a poor selection of tiles and not cheap either. I have looked for some bright tiles as a decorative border and as yet haven’t found any.

Go to Terzis and look through their catalogue.
