hi, i am trying to find out how to fly my dog to the uk, he flew over with us last year with thomson, but they do not fly this time of year, and i am having real problems finding anywhere that does, can anyone help me please.he has all his papers and a container etc as he has flown before, i know olympic flies small dogs but he is a chow chow mix so a large breed that needs to go in the cargo! and olympic does not have the facilities for this.
we are aiming to fly around the 8th of december
i even looked into driving, but we would have to borrow a car, drive over and then my husband drive back etc so it ends up expensive
        please email me – sarapandermalis@hotmail.com
        thanx

I think your best bet would be to get the ferry to Piraeus and get a flight from Athens.
You can get a train from the port right to the airport.

                hi peebee
thanx but i already knew that, i have done the trip many times, but this is the first time we are trying to take our dog. BA world cargo gave us a few links, but they dont seem to go this time of year,
i am hoping someone wil know a comapny or airline that does. i checked thomson and thomas cooke but they dont go this time of year, agean does not fly to uk, olympic only take small dogs, easy jet does not have the facilities.
any ideas of someone who does?

Aegean do fly to the UK – Heraklion-Athens, then Athens to Heathrow. Same all year round!

just checked again, they do not fly pets into heathrow at the moment, and the only other flight they have is via brussels to manchester that is way too long for our dog.

to anyone who is interested, have managed to contact British Airways world cargo – pet air, and am waiting for a quote, they fly from athens to heathrow all year around. In december for an adult it is about 80 euros, will update with prices for dogs to fly

just found out that to fly from athens will be 1300 euros! most people are waiting until april! looks a hell a lot cheaper to drive to england, back again (to retun the car!) and then fly back again! :)

Very difficult to transport animals this time of year from Crete as you are finding out!

The Friends of Animals of Rethymnon send rescue dogs all over Europe to new homes & there is nothing they do not know regarding flights.

I do not think you will get your dog back for less than you were quoted but try Rita or Clodagh they may be able to help:

                                        Good luck!

thanx will try to call them later, at the moment probably looking at driving, as we can take a lot more stuff with us, plus is cheaper and best of all, more comfortable for the dog :)

Hi, sorry could not do the quote thing, this is in reply to you saying it cost 1300Euro, have you tried other airlines that fly from Athens to UK, i.e. easyjet, no idea if they do it or cost. Only was told by friend who transported dogs from Greece; charges were done by the weight of the dog, but you already know that.

If you decided to drive, ensure you have the relevant insurance, that the car has the relevant Road tax for whichever country it is from to cover you for the entire journey back and forth.

                                                Best regards moggy

British airways cargo was the only airline in the winter that will fly pets into the uk and not cheaply.NO other airline does it.You can get to France with other airlines but then your only way to the uk is by ferry.Believe me when i tell you that driving is the only realistic way this time of the year as ive tried every which way to fly and failed. The costs of driving are not cheap but you could treat the trip as a mini holiday and get your dog home.Things may change in Jan when the regulations change more airlines may be allowed to fly into the uk.Easyjet does not take pets at all.
Plan to drive we do it every year now and on the way back we stay in nice hotels as pets are always accepted and you can visit a xmas market on the way back.
                                                    good luck :D

dylan, thanks for that, as had been reading through the Easyjet site and could only find stuff re guide dogs.

Premiere Classe hotels in France, allow pets at extra charge think it is around 5Euro per pet. Strange eh, it is the same charge for the room whether 1, 2 or 3 people but extra charge for pet for the room. Their room charges do vary, but average out about 35Euro per night with own shower/toilet. It is basic but somewhere economical to sleep for the night with parking & restaurant facilities close by. I agree it is nice if one can make a holiday of it and as you say visit Xmas market but depends if people are on tight buget.

The reason I brought up the flights again, had noticed sarouskava was talking re the loan of a car

Good luck sarouskava with your searches

You make no mention of a donkey in any of your posts, you are concerned with taking your dog back to the UK and yet you do not mention rehoming your donkey and yet you e mailed Walk with Donkeys Sanctuary asking us to rehome your donkey. Something is not right here. PLEASE EXPLAIN
