Commissioned in May 2009, the vessel is the tenth and final Nimitz-class super carrier of the United States Navy. The carrier is #nuclear powered.
#CNN-77 was named after George H W Bush, the 41st President of the United States; a former Director of Central Intelligence Agency and prior to that a naval aviator during World War II. Bush’s call sign is Avenger, after the TBM Avenger aircraft flown by then-Lieutenant George Bush in World War II.
The USS George Bush Strike Group of ships also includes guided-missile destroyers, the USS Laboon (DDG 58) and USS Truxtun (DDG 103), and guided missile cruisers USS Philippine Sea (CG 58) and USS Hue City (CG 66).
The Group is on a scheduled deployment conducting naval operations under the U.S.6th Fleet banner supporting U.S. national security interests in Europe.
