This weekend, December 12 and 13, the Greek Weather Service is warning strong winds and rain across southern Greece to include impacting the island of Crete
The National Greek Meteorological Service (EMY) issued on Friday an Extraordinary Weather Deterioration Bulletin that a low depression is moving in the general direction from west to east across the island affecting Chania Prefecture first. The island is to expect to be hit with blustery winds, heavy downpours, often from thunderstorm activity and even hailstones could fall in places. The large slow moving storm by late afternoon Sunday could bring hazardous conditions as it moves across the eastern part of Crete and onto Karpathos and Rhodes. On Crete the temperature highs range from about 14C in Chania (Chania town) to lows of 9-10C in Lassithi (Neapoli).
Not only Crete is being affected but the intense storm but much of the west of the country from the Ionian Islands to the Peloponnese, Attica and into the Eastern Aegean. Seas in all areas are expected to be medium to rough.
So anyone on Crete and other affected areas, be prepared to batten down the hatches.
