just to clarify something here guys.

I have a sky+ subscription at the moment.  Can I just go out and buy a sky box from ebay for example and contact sky customer services and ask them to marry up the new box with my viewing card, and take the new box and viewing card with me to crete and watch movies etc.

then when i return to uk, I can simply insert the viewing card into my box in the uk and continue watching as normal.

in actual fact, have the one subscription, but  able to watching sky tv here and in crete, and have 2 boxes married up to 1 viewing card.

sorry if it sounds confusing, but i am a little confused myself.

        thanks

            Hi Skaletaguy

Having moved out quite recently i have just been thru all this.
I don’t think that sky will allow one card for two boxes – they are pretty strict on the "rules" regarding cards and boxes.
Firstly I think i am correct in saying that the sky plus box has to be plugged into a uk phone line at all times according to the sky plus contract. If you ring sky and tell them that you want another box in your house as well as the sky plus you already have – they will probably say no problem and sign you up to "multiroom" – which i think also requires the box to be hooked up to the phone line at all times – which is obviously not an option for you in crete – also they will send you a seperate card for the new box which will be matched only to that particular box! I was in a similar situation to you (although we are here peramenly now – not coming and going) and i looked into all the options. I ended up cancelling the sky plus and multiroom contract we already had – then i bought an unsubsidised box from melksham satellites – this frees you from the phone line restrictions – i then rung sky and set up a new account with an english address and bank account and subscribed to a package (there are channels that you just cant get here but i would say you can get 85 – 90%)
So far no probs – i will be ringing sky to get the ricky Hatton fight on saturday as i have all the sports channels.
After looking at all the options this seemed to be the easiest way for me – someone else may have another option that will suit your situation better – but i dont think that one sky card for 2 boxes is an option.

            Hope you find a solution

            James

If your box is over a year old it doesn’t have to be connected to the phone line and it’s yours to do what you want (ie if you cancel your subscription, you don’t have to send the box back).  I would assume it’ll be the same for the Sky+ box.

i noticed there is an option with melksham satellites to purchase a card with the box. i assume this card will be married to the box.

                        thanks again

                            HI there
Its JDRCOOL here (im on the mrs computer!!)
Melksham do offer boxes with cards – it is a sky freesat card wich allows you to watch any free to air channels that you can recieve – i tried it and got quite a few channels though most of them were not much cop!!
I ended up ringing sky and subscribing but they could not upgrade the card remotely (i think because no phone line connected)
so they sent a new card to the english addresss (my mothers) so i had to wait for it forwarding on. I would set it all up in u.k if i had to do it again- to save waiting but sorting it out with sky was quite easy. As far as phone lines are concerned if it is a normal box then yes after 1 year you do not have to connect the phone line but i think that sky plus and multiroom have different conditions on the contract which states that all boxes have to be connected at all times – sky are not stupid!!

So if i purchase a sky box and card from melksham and contact sky customer services and set up my subs with any extras in the uk, I should be able to use this in crete. all i need is a dish?

                                is that right?

                                sorry if i sound stupid

                                thanks

                                    Correct!!

Just make sure you buy the unsubsidised box. Sky will know its unsubsidised when you give them the serial no.
hook it up to your existing dish at home – don’t plug the phone in – tell them you have no access to a land line – just give them your mobile no – ring sky to enable your card etc and set your subs up. once all is set up just bring it out hook it up to a dish and hey presto!! The only other thing you may need to do is set the channel frequencies up in the other channels menu – easiest way is just ring your local sat man and he will come round and do it – it only takes a few mins – costas where i am knows the frequencies off the top of his head – he did’nt even charge me for doing it!! ;)

                                    Thats it – job done!!!

Regarding a telephone connection, check your contract. If you buy a used Sky Digibox and ask Sky for a "second hand contract" (which you complete and return to obtain a viewing card) then you don’t need a phone connection.

If you have a single Sky card subscription, the contract generally requires a phone connection but you can "buy out" of this requirement by paying an extra one-off fee of £25. The phone connection for a single card subscription is generally not policed by Sky.

BUT if you allow yourself to be trapped into paying £10 a month for a second Sky viewing card ("multiroom") you must connect both Digiboxes to the same (UK) phone line and it WILL be checked periodically. If the check fails, a letter will be sent, asking you to connect it. If you ignore this request, Sky will start to charge you for two separate subscriptions, possibly backdated to the start of the contact!

                                                    We have NOVA in Crete.

There are several different packages to choose from, but it’s about 60 euro for the full pack. >:(
