Username is the one you use to log in – effectively secret.
Screen name is the one that’s visible to all.

For some bizarre reason, mine are both the same.

I have just changed my Screen name and get this message

For security reasons, it is not advisable to have your screen name the same as your user ID.

My log in has also changed to the new Screen name

why did it do that, how do I change my Log In ID

Neither is my email and my log in ID does have a password

                    Hello Moggy1923

I share your understanding of these things you refer to.

As a mere whippersnapper compared to your esteemed years I have given up asking questions about the why’s and wherefore’s of the software we are using in this forum. I note you have been with BiC since 2007. Since then there have been many changes. I may be wrong but in the beginning I do not think it mattered that the username and screen name were the same. But as security for users became more and more complex, the developers separated the two and could not be identical in the interest of any enhanced security. Now if it still works for you the way you set it up, then you are safe and not compromised in any way. To me it is a bit like how the "health and Safety" now works. Before, we had never heard of such a thing. The introduction of it did not change the facts just made us made more aware of them. Same with the way the member’s process works in here.

I have got to the stage that if something is working — and I hope you are not having more problems, then it is best let it be. Just go with the flow as the youngsters would say. This is not a cop-out on my part but honestly the speed of changes on the application of the Internet is getting way beyond my attention span.

                    Gerald.
