        Hi everyone,

Does anyone have a wheelchair which I could borrow for about a week in September – exact dates unconfirmed yet – or know where I can hire one?

        I live in Tavronitis (Kolimbari 730 06) – Chania.

My wife is expecting her sister to visit some time in September this year and bring their 89 year old mother with her too.

Mother-in-law doesn’t have a wheelchair in the UK but in the last 12 months has stopped going out, doesn’t leave the house anymore, so NEVER walks at all anywhere any more.

The consequence is that she is virtually no longer able to walk at all, certainly no more than a few yards at any time anyway, and very slowly if she is forced to try. I know! Sad indeed! She will definitely need assistance at Gatwick Airport to reach her boarding gate from the main departure lounge as, I’m sure many of you will know, it’s quite a hike to most of them!

We will be most pleased to see her when she arrives in Crete and we do have a car with which to run her around. But the problem is that when we then get parked up anywhere we’re stuck for further progress with Mum just being incapable of walking any distance.

So if anyone out there has a spare wheelchair to loan or hire out to us, or knows a man who does, we would be very pleased to hear from you.

        Many thanks.

        Les & Gill Bunker.

Best option would be to contact the Red cross in xania as they have disabled aids that they lend out I understand

Sorry I have no contact numbers for them but will try to find out

            Dave.

Hi, ensure the the airline is informed at least a week before, believe she will need to get to the airport a bit early as well.

well done for all your efforts

Hi, another alternative which we found very helpful, is to hire a wheelchair from the red cross in the uk and bring it with you. We had the best trip ever when we brought a wheelchair to Crete this year, priority boarding and fabulous assistance at both Manchester and Heraklion airports. I think costs vary from branch to branch, some will ask only for a donation, ours was a bargain £20 for four weeks. Good luck :)
