You know I am sure that there is now a dedicated day in the calendar for absolutely every category of human endeavour. So why not “International Hobbit Day” (IHD) as a thank you to inspirational story telling.
The celebrations and partying to celebrate the legacy of author J.R.R. Tolkien (1892-1973) falls annually on September 22nd. This day is specifically dedicated to two fictional characters: Frodo Baggins and Bilbo Baggins, two hobbits from the adventure fantasy books “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” and their sequels written by Tolkien.
International Hobbit Day in fact started in 1978 by the American Tolkien Society as an excuse for a party to ‘celebrate’ and mark the birthdays of Frodo and Bilbo Baggins two of the lead characters of the stories. The other way fans express support for this special day is by walking around shoeless – in other words barefoot, in honour of the hobbits. That is what they did and you can do too if you are a Hobbit supporter.
The movie versions of both books are both box office successes and take audiences out of the real world into The Hobbit land of happiness.
