Well thank you all very much, most helpful.
I did indeed mean kafeneion chairs, well spotted.
There’s a family of Roma who live a few streets away who restring chairs, but I thought I’d give it a bash before I took them to them.
I did ask, and they told me 20 euros per chair, not bad I suppose, although I only paid 8 for them a few weeks ago.
Thank you all once again, I’ll let you know how I get on.
The Guinness in Chania was 5 Euros a pint, and a pint of draught Mythos was 3,50 all very delicous.
Oh I’m afraid I’m going to have to put a myth to sleep, the water used in the brewing process of Guinness is not from the Liffe, I only know this because I was in Dublin in February and went to St James’s gate, it was terrible news as I’ve always called it the Liffe water, ah well never mind.
I did this four or five years ago, the KEP people did everthing. All I had to do was get the license translated, went to a lawyer. the whole thing cost around 60 euros. The license is valid untill you are 65, then each year you must spend an hour with a driving instructer to ensure you haven’t gone bananas. My license was one of the old green ones, if yours is EU you may not need the translation. Good luck
Back to laser eye surgery. I asked someone last night who is considering the surgery, he told me it costs a minimum of a 1,000 Euros per eye. Also that the surgery was developed by a doctor who is in fact still at the hospital in Heraklion. This of course is all heresay, but I think it’s well worth contacting the hospital to find out.
I’m not 100% sure, but I think you can own a petrol driven pick up if you’re not a business, it’s the diesel engined ones that need some form of business papers. I would imagine your insurance broker may know.
Thanks for that, what we’re really looking for is a cafe or bar to get the crowd effect, if you know what I mean. Sad but true.
Terribly sorry, I was replying, tongue in cheek, to the post by Elizatiger. Wont happen again. :-X
Taxes on foreigners is going up 30%, it’ll probably be cheaper to get them on E-Bay in the future. ::)
Yes I have a similar deal with Tellas, it includes one hour to mobiles, unlimited international and local calls to landlines and unlimited internet at 10 mpbs for 40 euros a month. Two months ago I had no internet for about half an hour, which I ignored, three days later I received a message from Tellas apologising for the inconvenience and that my next months payment would be halved. I would check them out, they seem to be quite honest.
What’s the difference between modern aircraft and dinosaurs? ::)
It was between 2 and 5 euros a sq meter depending on condition of surfaces to be painted, may well be a lot cheaper now due to lack of work a lot of people are experiencing at the moment. You of course would supply the paint. Daily wages vary for a tradesman 50 to 70 euros a day plus IKA and a sandwich (optional).
I think you’ll find it’s 18, the legal age to drive here. If your son has a licence shouldn’t be any problem.
Excellent, are they twins, or is it some kind of technological jiggery pokery? ::)
Hi Paul managed to get one today, thanks for the offer
All the best Bill.
Sounds interesting, have sent you a pm Bill.
I was talking to a friend of mine a few weeks ago, he was off to xania to see a government official about getting his daughter a job in a well known supermarket. When I spoke to him a few days later he told me his meeting was successful and his daughter had the job. So it’s not just government jobs, and it may give an indication why it’s so expensive here, we’ll give your friends jobs and you’ll let us charge what we like. Of course, I could be completely wrong.

Not wanting to upset anybody, but I think square meters may also help.
Will it be ok if I bring my Mum?
