                    hi mfc
i asked the same question about a year ago , i was intrested in flyfishing.
lake kournas is the only freshwater on the island (permanent) and its a protected area ( no fishing).

                    but
i discovered a new way to fish,
if you just go out and stand very still in the sea water (in my case, wearing a cowboy hat and smoking a cigar), the fish come in and nibble your feet :o

a bit disconcerting i can tell ya.

                        thanks folks ;D
Ierapetra Lass: that link to thomas cook is very promising and as you say reasonabley priced. direct from glasgow, in april, nice easy site to have a wander round to!

thanks for all replies folks 8-)

last year we used flyglobespan a few times but they seem to have dropped crete to glasgow this year??

all suggestions apprecciated but 6 flights for a weeks holiday+ airport time and providing they all link up with no delays …… nah i aint that keen.

hope your all having a nice relaxing winter over there :)

my greenhouse has blown away here :( and the house roofs leeking

we had a drive down to sunny england last week (they are getting it worse than scotland)…driving past manchester my wife said "oh look at the lovely big robin redbreasts they have here ;D . it was a pidgeon with a stab wound :-/

                            Thanks folks
suspected as much, first direct flights from Glasgow are early may, i believe they are about a month earlier from london.

just looking for a Greek break in 5 or 6 weeks, so looks like a flight to london and a week around athens and maybe the peleponnes:D

or the easy option is a week in the canary islands :-/, but would rather see Crete in its winter season.
looks like i wont be back over till may

only 2 rules most reasonable people need to adhere to are
good manners and a bit of common sense. :P

i suspect however the new owners have to cover themselves legally, hence a lot of rules that 99% of us stick to anyway. ::)

some people seem to just like an argument.

p.s. anyone in crete fancy swopping houses for a few months ?? i’ll throw my family in as company for you ;D

i believe thats what forms like this are for.
                                                a genuine "thank you"

I have been reading a lot of the other posts …and have porposley mis-spelt a lot of my words ( ::) ) and used  bad grammar   so those of you that cant spell in the english languge properly dont feel quite so bad.

as long as we are all understood and there is an element of humour and good manners  thats all that matters to me  ;D

p.s. dont bother to correct my spelling       …i dont care   im happy, well mannered and aint going back to school:D

i work in a business that allows me to mix with many different nationalities(anyone that buys building materials).
like a lot of people im a bit disillusioned with the number of foreigners coming to britain, hence ive asked the question in the past about "how do the greeks feel about us living there?", but i digress :-X
i ask most of my customers including greeks, asians australians &south africans as well as brits "why do you come here to work?" and the answer without fail has been …
because britain is an easy place to make money!.
and most intend to work here for a number of years and retire back to their homelands. :-?
i have one customer whos father owns a farm on zakynthos, after he did his greek national service he qualified as a plumber, moved to britain and sends money home, hes currently in his 30’s but would like to go back to zakynthos in his mid 40’s with a case full of cash :)

all agree the weather in britain is poor and certainly not a relaxed place to live
So ….we all have diffferent things we want out of life, and we should consider ourselfs fortunate that we were born here and (most) have a chance to earn a decent lifestyle that allows us options as we get older  ;D

p.s. please dont tell me its sunny on crete on christmas day 8-)
