A macerator as gavalochri geezer said is correct, I sell them in the UK, they work on a similar principal to a kitchen sink waste disposal system ..electricaly operated, noisy, efficient and for a single toilet in the Uk, trade cost around £250 ..will pump upto 4mts verticaly and 50mts horizontaly on a 22mm diameter pipe.
Anything else going down the toilet to clear pipes is either acid or chemical based which aint good for the enviroment or anything else …only to be used in emergency blockages.
The most popular macerator sold in europe is called a "saniflo"

            http://www.saniflo.co.uk/homeowners/sfa-product-line/adaptable-macerator-and-compact-macerator-for-toilets/
hope that helps ….but I suspect its not really what your looking for :)

yeh sorry, but they have applied and aparently the word is they will be let in ….I know nuts or what ??? :D but the way things are going the euro wont exist by the time it all goes through ..

must go and check now as I honestly thought they had already been accepted ::)
funnily enough after the eurovision song contest recently being held in Azarbejan it made me go and look at the world map and what is considered to be europe?? it was surprising.

                                    Brian ….still learning :)

As far as "the Greek bailout goes and a new party being elected, the opinion of everyone I have spoken to is "it is just temporarily putting off the enevitable." and Greece will eventualy have to drop the Euro as there is no way they can pay back in any stretch of the imagination, the moneys they have already taken out of the eurozone ……and similar would probably apply to Spain and Italy.
The euro will collapse ….its just a matter of .. when??
OK its only my opinion, but it all boils down to Germany and France trying to build empires, and it has all gone wrong. As others on here have said, allowing the likes of Rumania, Turkey and even to a point Greece into the EEC was madness, as all they have seen us for is a cash cow.
It dosent take a genuis to look at how these countries finance themselves and how they spend money like it is going out of fashion with the local authority type of employees all on silly money and few people paying a proper taxes.

Thanks for the reply Ros :)
good idea ref taking clothes to pass on. We are not back out till september and will check out if there are any "help" centres around agios nicolas to heraklion areas.
I also hear there are a lot of east european beggars decending on Greece/Crete which wont help. :(

If anyone knows of such centres it would be nice to post them, so those of us that can help, be it even in a small way can contribute.

nice to see name and shame, won’t last however as we could be under pressure from legal teams.
I must be honest I love Crete, the atmosphere etc etc, as we all do, but over the last 4 or 5 years the prices in restuarants have climbed well out of proportion to everything else, and as much as I dislike all inclusive, I can understand why your normal holiday maker could favour it.

                                                well done Kathleen

                                                    quote from Mandraek
So the discussion centred around who is going to be worse for the country? Given that not a single politician has a constructive idea for a way out of this mess, no one wastes any time presenting their own party’s policy. Instead they concentrate on telling us that all the other parties have got it all wrong."
….very true, and you could probably say the same for the UK and every other country in europe …nay the world.

all I can suggest is as we do in Scotland for external barbeques and wood burners (chimnea type cast iron) a light wire brush to clean it and wiped over with a very oily cloth (cooking oil) does the trick here.

After reading the last 5 or 6 pages of this post all I can say is, we all have different incomes and different needs in life. It would seem you can have a nice enough life in Crete for 10k to 12k, if you already own your own home and don’t have a lot of outgoing expenses, like pool  maintenance,  a car, pets etc etc , on the other hand if you want a nice car, sky tv, broadband etc etc,  you are probably looking at around the 25k mark. The point of this thread which has been very well contributed to over the last few years, is to point out all the costs and savings people like me can make and therefore make the right  choices of what costs what, and set your budget to suit what you can afford, picking out the parts that apply to your situation.
Harry & Tom courtney’s contributions I personally found intriguing as I also like to potter in the garden, my wife just retired and I am on the verge, but need to convince myself I can afford to. I would be living on savings and the  income from savings for 6 years till my pensions kick in. (for what they are).  P.s. Tom  your posts are all excellent but even better when you have put away a few drinks   :)
Harry, I used a chainsaw myself for the first time this year, and my toes curled when you mentioned your accident. :o
Posts in relation to health services I also learned from, Indeed many of the posts that touched on things that interest me (cooking, diy, garden, driving, animals and eating out) were for me very informative and helpful, and that’s what the thread is about ..you guys giving us local information and approximate costs and for that we thank you.
Whatever your lifestyle or expenses enjoy Crete while you can. :)

It would seem that  about 65% of households have an income between 11,000 euro and 33,000 euro which kind of makes a farce of my figures.
                                                                                http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Income_in_the_United_Kingdom

                                                                                http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-15197860
